Grassroots Labour

Social democracy meets social networking

At the latest PPTA executive meeting the ignorant Anne Tolley implied that all teachers should receive a pay cut to pay for support staff. Even more insulting was that she then proceeded to greatly offend the whole professional body of the teaching profession by reading a children's story book to the delegation about a rat who should be grateful for what he already has and to expect no more. Is this the behaviour of a government minister for education to insult one of the most professional and established of all unions. I am ashamed to say that she is from Hawke's Bay. What is The Labour Party Response to such disgusting behaviour? What a jerk she is and how can the Teaching Profession grow under such an unsympathetic and insensitive minister who has no regard for teachers whatsoever?

Bush's National Standards caused a lot of grief in the US and accomplished nothing! Parents should be the watchdog like I was when my kids were young. I made sure the kids met the standards for their age group. That included extra family spelling bees and home and remedial reading by myself for my 7 year old son. Its up to parents not a prescribed National Standard to make sure their kid is up to speed. We were only a working class family and I worked full time so there is no excuse for parents today that they are too busy to be their own kids educational watchdog.
