Grassroots Labour

Social democracy meets social networking

I just came across this by accident (via scoop).

http://www.healthyhomeshealthykiwis.org.nz

I hope they're going to communicate it to Party members and let us know how to help. Seems like a good initiative.

(Also, when I filled in the survey, it came up with a message saying I'd already filled it in).

There is campaign material to come. It's a really important issue.

The value of this Labour campaign is that it is a nationally cordinated campaign which can easily be taken up locally - through local media and in terms of local conditions etc. A lot easier to maintain a Labour profile when riding on a national movement than it is to organise around exclusively local issues (which is of course not a reason to ignore local issues).

Happy to sign the petition! I didn't have any problems doing so.

What about a version that we can place in workplaces and clubs for those who don't 'do' the online thing?

If you filled in the petition from an office, or from univeristy, or anywhere where several people share the same IP address, then you will get a message saying that the petition is already filled in

It's a feature to stop people abusing the petition and filling in multiple times. If only the world ran exclusively on the honour system.

It would be great if the Labour Party homepage linked to it's smaller initiative sites in its main navigation. Otherwise it looses coherency. I am a bit concerned that there is no obvious list of sub sites anywhere on the main site (I can only assume this is on its way?)

Where is the usability stuff on the main site, cookie crumbs etc that will make content easier to find. Where is the secondary navigation, you tube, facebook, links to calculators, links to newspaper articles etc. I heard there was great press in the local papers about Labours conf. no-one else will get that unless Labour puts it somewhere! :) I look forward to seeing this content.

For this campaign it would be great if we partnered with industry stakeholders, and health organisations on it. And maybe advertise that support with banners on the site or something e.g XYZ Budgeting Service supports this campaign. Contact us on 1234567 for Budgeting Help. or XYZ Insulation Company.

Way to go Claire Curran!- Bloody Legend! We should get some activists to stand outside some of the other forums and have them continue to hand out our pamphlets.

Every Kiwi family deserves a warm dry home, so I'm getting on board the Health Homes, Healthy Kiwis initiative.

Check out the updated carter.org.nz for some inspiration, and get your friends involved!

here's a photo fresh out of our flickr photostream of phil and damien helping to insulate a house! ;)

ps. the petition is set up to try to disallow multiple voting, unfortunately sometimes it makes mistakes - usually based on someone in your organisation already having voted from your computer network... i understand there's someone working on improving the mechanism a bit...

fran - great ideas but what can be achieved is really an issue of resources. i'm sure features will be added as time and money allows... i know there are a few changes on the way... ;)

I think this is a great idea and as former Pacific Island rep for Young Labour I do believe that this will boost our standard of living and such initiatives are most welcome in Pasefika communities,
just one more reason why I vote Labour...

Cheers...
