Hi Guys, I’ve just recently rejoined the Labour Party and it’s great to be back. I’ve been active in the political scene for over 11 years now. My most immediate concern is on the future direction of the Labour Party and the lack of its presence in the rural heartland sector (particularly in our region). The reshuffle caused great concern to me and many others, as a Public Relations and Communications Consultant I wasn't entirely convinced of the so called "rejuvenation" attempt by the party hierarchy. In my view it was unfortunately a failed attempt.

As a member I believe that the Party needs to seriously consider adopting a more politically savvy image. Public perception quite clearly sates that Labour is looking old and tired compared to Nationals lively and youthful presence. Fresh blood is desperately needed within the party and this needs to be drawn from grassroots level. Now is the hour to make it all happen! I’m happy to make a contribution in whatever way possible.

What do you guys think?

Hi Tim, welcome to the party.
Im the regional rep for young Labour in your area. Unfortunately there is no active branch of young labour up there, we are working on getting an e-branch up and running so members in the provinces like you can talk to other branchless members. What you should definately do is come down to our conference which is the 17th, 18th and 19th of April down here in Wellington, you can sign up for it on the young Labour website www.younglabour.org.nz, if accommodation is a problem YL can sort you out with a billet. Conference is a great way to meet other members and also to meet your new regional rep when he/she is elected. Any other questions flick me an email jameshbarnett@gmail.com

Welcome Tim, it's great to have you! Sadly we don't have the hugest presence in New Plymouth, but it's something we would like to work on.

Feel free to email me on patrick.leyland@gmail.com and I'll put you in contact with people who can help out.

Cheers, and again, welcome to the party!

Patrick
