I agree that Labour has not taken local govt as seriously as some other parties have. Except that now Shane Jones is the party's spokesperson on local govt. I work for Shane as electorate staff at his Kaikohe, Northland office, and he actively encouraged me to stand for the local community board at the last elections. "You are my ears and eyes, where ever you are". I won the chair of the western community board for the Far North District Council, and it has been instrumental in sharing concerns and finding solutions from local grassroots through to central government level. Argh the good old days. Anyway knowing where you have been as a planner I think there is a wealth of knowledge inside the local govt organisation/beast that would help review and get good feedback for the Labour party.
