our bright kids !

The idea that our young people are failing at school is just Tory hornswoggle.
Just watch our young people being interviewed on TV. Time and time again they astound me with their knowledge and understanding .Not only the seniors but the primary school pupils. Only this month we were judged the top in reading among the OECD countries. Of course we have some who fail ,but who say's they have failed. What we do need to is increase apprenticships for the non academic pupil. Something this National g… Continue

ACC in danger

My former belief that Lord Michael Ashcroft has his eye on our ACC is strengthened day by day. Nck Smith is certainly prepairing ACC for privatization. and and Lord Ashcroft wil be the front runner in its purchase .This sleazy crafty lot have already taken the sting out of its actions. Smith has played a very clever trick by lowering the proposed rise in the levy.
I bet there will now be a feeling of relief among the public. The catch cry will be "There you are its not so baf after all".Will the… Continue

The Tories promised tax cuts I dont think!

Is it just me or am I right in thinking the Nats are prepairing the public to accept that there will be no further tax cuts.
Now the headline news in a number of daily papers and also TV &radio news has come up with the so called latest poll saying that the public do not want tax cuts if it means less health ect. Amazing ! the same polls run by the same pollsters told us all in Huge Headlines that that was the main policy at the last election. were all going to have huge tax cuts . Now Engli… Continue

Auckland local body worries.

we need to get organized now for the greater Auckland plans and elections. Weve only just heard about the Tories (sic) plan for Auckland so they already have a good head start. Lets face it they with the ACT.party are going to push this am algamation through . I bet they already have candidates lined up .We must be ready.Far Right Banks is already canvassing for the mayorship. Can we on the Left afford to have the present Right Wing government and also an Auckland Council with a ACT./National Co… Continue

Maori ignored by Key.

Well at last the true blue tories are emerging . The recent Local Body announcements regarding Auckland City tell us just what National think of Maori. The lack of seats for Maori on the proposed council is an absolute insult.
Pita Sharples has every right to be annoyed. Having said that ,what did he expect? Im not a vindictive person but im tempted to say "Serve you bloody right.!. By the way Tariana Turia is very quiet is she not!

Happy New Year to you both. Hans and I are well and just returned from a very enjoyable tour of the East Coast. Didn't see "moko" but heard lots of tuis and a couple of bell birds (we think),as well as visiting family and friends.

We will catch up with you both soon.

Hi John. Thanks for your lovely greetings. I hope you are both keeping well and fit. I am in Nelson these days and working on a PhD - I have my both my son and my daughter, her Turkish husband and their two children here in Nelson also, so I am very lucky. My husband is not so well these days - he has just developed Parkinsons in the last year or so. I am less active than I used to be but am pleased that Maryan Street has an increasingly high profile locally - and a good team around her. Hope you are enjoying the festive season. All the best.

Thanks John, health a bit of a problem, still there is spirit, but am happy assisting behind the local scene while a bit of fresh blood takes up the cause. Luckily, that is happening.
Season's greetings to you both

Hi John

It's great to hear from you, and I will get in touch when I'm next back home, probably in April.

I'm half way through a three contract at Charles Sturt University in Dubbo, about 6 hours northwest of Sydney. I'm teaching indigenous studies, mainly indigenous health, and preparing a new subject for the School of Threology based on my PhD. I'm working on another book 'Indigeneity: Power, Politics and Justice', which is a comparative study of indigenous politics.

Lucy is good. She starts school next year and is becoming a great Obama fan, getting very excited when he appears on TV. We have another baby due in December, so will be back visiting family shortly afterwards - probably April as I said.

I'll also be back some time soon for the launch of a book I've just finished with a couple of colleagues from Waikato 'Scaling up Education Reform: The Politics of Disparity'. I'll send you an invitation to the launch, probably some time early next year.

Kind regards

Dominic
